Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) knowledge is key to global economic success, but other countries are quickly surpassing us in this area. America needs to train new scientists, engineers, and mathematicians at home, and student Veterans are well equipped to meet this challenge.
Student Veterans have valuable skills, discipline and spirit that are a natural fit for STEM careers but many need to finish college. With the support of higher education, today’s soldier can be tomorrow’s scientist.
Veterans in STEM is a program of KC BANCS, which operated between 2009 and 2014, and is currently in wrap-up mode. Veterans in STEM provided support and resources to Veterans who are majoring in science (including social science), technology, engineering, or math (STEM). This a flexible program offered many different ways to participate and connect with other veterans who have the same academic and career interests.
Many people throughout the Kansas City region, and the nation, are interested in promoting veterans in STEM careers. Recently, a group convened to discuss how to better accomplish this. A photographic overview of the data is below.
